Reed and Beck Shelton arrive in the forest for an exercise in survival. Reed loves this kind of stuff and has arranged everything - the best guide, the best equipment, and so on. Beck, his shy, stuttering wife isn't so sure, but concedes that the trip might be good for her. On their first night, however, they make a startling discovery. Soon after, an eerie wail splits the air, and something begins pursuing them.
The next day, Reed finds himself dependent on a few friends and the residents of a small town for help in finding his missing wife - who he insists was carried away by some huge creature.
Following each chapter is a map of the area, pinpointing events as they happen. It's a handy device most of the time, but it definitely creates the urge to look at a future map for hints. Try to avoid the temptation. You'll enjoy the story more.
What is there to say about Frank Peretti? Time magazine called him "king of the faith-based fiction genre."
