Diamonds Doug Gilmore “Diamonds” is a new release by the Doug Gilmour Worship Ministries. The CD starts with an Irish jig on Psalm 50 and goes right into God’s Army a “warfare type” praise song. Before you know it, the music changes from warfare praise to intimate worship and you can easily be lost in Him. The press release for the project says it better than I can, “It’s a dangerous thing to invite God when you are doing a live worship recording. He might actually show up and then, who knows what could happen. The result in this case is a worship album unlike any other we have heard. Recorded during two nights of worship at Church on the Rise, Westlake and Cornerstone Friends Church in Madison, OH, “Diamonds” might just challenge your idea of worship. The CD is literally packed full, having less than a second of spare space on it. That makes 74 minutes of total worship experience. To give “Diamonds” a ‘style’ label is impossible – trust me on that one. “God’s Army” is a fast-paced all-out declaration with searing violins and blatant horns; “Psalm 5O” is an Irish jig cum rock shuffle (the drummers dream); “Diamonds” is a ballad; “You set me free” is some brand of funky, to name but a few of the tracks. Doug’s way of leading worship is non-conventional too, but you can always count on hearing his tenderness toward the Lord and a heart for the people. What really sets “Diamonds” apart from other praise and worship albums is the “Selah” tracks. In the book of Psalms, “Selah” is understood to mean the moment given to sit and ponder. However, it is actually also a moment given over to the Lord for something to happen in the spiritual realm. Doug and the team play what they believe the Lord is speaking or ministering, or what is happening in the heavenlies. In a service, this will often be accompanied by the prophetic spoken word. The selahs on “Diamonds” are beautiful, intense prophetic material from the nights of worship. You could call it improvisation, but somehow there’s more to it than that.”
