Ruth Fazal was born in England, and began her musical studies on the piano and the violin. At the age of sixteen, Ruth attended Dartington College of Arts in Devonshire, where she began to concentrate on the violin. After completing her studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London, Ruth won a French Government Scholarship to study the violin in Paris for two years.
Ruth has lived in Toronto, Canada since 1975, and has performed with all of the major orchestras in the city, and is actively involved in many chamber music ensembles. She can be frequently heard performing on CBC radio. Ruth is currently concertmaster of all three orchestras of the Mississauga Symphonic Association, including the acclaimed string orchestra Sinfonia Mississauga. Ruth is also concertmaster of the Elora Festival Orchestra and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Orchestra. Ruth is the Organist/Music Director at Little Trinity Anglican Church in downtown Toronto.
Ruth has written many worship songs, and spends much of her time leading worship with her team, in churches and at conferences both in North America and in Europe.
Ruth writes… “I long to see God’s people released into the joy of a deeply intimate relationship with the Lord, entering into the very centre of His heart in worship” Ruth has a real desire to see music used in the context of intercession and prayer, and to incorporate the prophetic in all worship. To date, Ruth has produced twelve worship albums, including three instrumental albums using violin and keyboard/synthesiser. Ruth makes her home in Toronto, Canada, along with her husband and two teenage children.
"I am increasingly seeing that God wants me to use my violin as an instrument of prophesy. Obviously, it does not speak words, and so this is a mystery to me. However, I believe that at times God says to me "PLAY" and so I play; whether it is over congregations, individuals, or places. If God is saying to do it, then I am trusting that something is happening in a realm that I am not aware of. Music is such a powerful tool in His hands, and I believe that the highest call on a musicians life is to play or sing at the prompting of the living God. The power inherent in music is beyond anything we could imagine, and when we submit that into His hands, there is no telling what He will accomplish!
